Misdemeanors, as defined by the Commonwealth of Virginia, offenses punishable by fine not exceeding $2,500 or being jailed for a term not exceeding 12 months or a combination of fine and jail within these limits.
Felonies, as defined by the Commonwealth of Virginia, a crime punishable by death or confinement in the penitentiary. See Virginia Code§ 18.2-10 for classification of felonies and the punishment for each classification.
Show Cause, as defined by the Commonwealth of Virginia, a court ruling directing the recipient to appear and present to the court such reasons and considerations as one has to offer why the recipient should not be punished for violating a court order or legal process or for contempt of court.
